Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564) is considered one of the masters of the Italian Renaissance.

As a student of the Medici Academy, Michelangelo was influenced by the members of the elite who educated and employed him. He came from an aristocratic ancestry and took great pride in this heritage, going to extreme lengths to present himself in an admirable and sophisticated fashion, reflected in the elegant cursive of his signature shown here. The Sistine Chapel's The Creation of Adam, featured on the reverse of this bookmark, is one of the most replicated religious paintings of all time. This section depicts the hand of God reaching out to Adam to impart the spark of life.
